This past semester, I’ve been working on completing my Capstone Project for the Classics Major. I decided to complete this assignment within my Seminar in Latin Prose course, in which we read the Agricola by Tacitus, both in Latin and in English. Since the events in this text are situated in Roman Britain during the first century CE, I decided to write my Capstone Project on the archaeological aspects of Agricola’s invasion in Britain and the events that followed. Titled, “The Impact of Roman Colonization and Urbanization on Early Roman Britain: A Comparative Lens on Roman Colonization,” I’m focusing on the top-down and bottom-up processes that accounted for the growth of cities in Roman Britain after Agricola’s invasion and subsequent colonization of Britain. To supplement this, I’m looking at the Roman colonization and urbanization of Carthage, to compare the tactics that are implemented and imposed in certain provinces.

Even though I didn’t complete an Independent Study or Thesis for my Capstone Project, my research for my Extended Research Paper still required planning and time management throughout the entire semester. This forced me to be cognizant of deadlines, plan when I could spend time working on my research, and consider all the different elements I wanted to research. This is an ongoing project, and will be completed in December 2025, and presented for completion of the Classics Major in Spring 2026.
